Agnes Kelm is a product designer living and working in Germany. Playful and well crafted, her work is influenced by thoughts on the environment, culture and society. By changing both appearance and handling of the designed objects she likes to challenge the users to fully dive into the experience, question common assumptions about how something should be or work and enjoy experimentation.
What was the inspiration for your Steinbeisser pieces?
The aim was to create cutlery objects that appeal to the user both visually and haptically and motivate them to fully dive into exploration. I had worked with bending rattan before and was happy to further explore woodbending in a smaller scale.
Describe your work in 3 words!
Playful. Sophisticated. Uncommon.
What kind of materials do you use and where do you get them from?
I love working with natural materials such as wood. I often work with leftover wood from a joinery.
Which conscious lifestyle choices are you making and are you considering any new ones?
I am eating mostly plant-based. My bicycle is a daily companion and its been a few years since I took a plane.
What have you rebelled against in the past and what are you rebelling against now?
I do my best to rebel against the dogma of efficiency. In slowness one can find a lot of peace and beauty. Detours can lead to wonderful experiences.
