This plate was created by slab dropping. Working in tandem with human scale contraptions the artist designs and creates himself, he drops slabs of clay onto 3-D objects. Clay is a unique material in its ability to react to gravity with instant transformation. Like archives of the everyday, frozen in clay’s permanence, the resulting pieces record each object’s form with abstracted fidelity. The work is meant to create intimate, and sometimes challenging moments between the plate, the food and the user.
