This plate focuses on the capacity for a natural material to convey a sense of terroir – the inimitable characteristics of environment, climate, and geological history which produce its unique identity. The piece reflects this concept on a very literal level by referencing the mountain range where the clay was collected. The plate possesses a unique topography and sense of landscape which encourages a dialogue between micro and macro environments. The topography influences the plating decisions, thus engaging in an unspoken collaboration.
